Energy
We use Scarlet as an example of energy usage and saving. We have a monitor on board to show how much energy we are using for our daily lives and boat functioning. This energy comes from a number of different sources, and Scarlet is used to show alternate sources of energy that are emission free and sustainable.

We all create waste but how much is up to us. Our aim on board is to reduce the amount of waste we create, reuse items where possible and promote recycling on board.

Water on board Scarlet is a limited resource, and the water pump used to circulate water around the boat uses up valuable energy. If we reduce our water consumption, we help save energy.

Food
Where does our food come from? On Scarlet we have to buy most of our food in local shops or supermarkets, unless we get lucky with the fishing rod! The choices we make in a supermarket can make a big difference, and we encourage looking for local and in season produce.

Carbon Footprint
Our carbon footprint will be measured on each leg of the voyage. We will have a competition between the crews to see which crew is the most energy efficient.
